ART DIRECTION VISUAL DESIGN MOTION DESIGN CAVALRY

Styeframe from the video
Modernizing the Lab ! In this project, I led the art direction and visual design for Tetsuwan's launch film introducing ResearchOS.

The goal was to build a retro-futuristic, slow-burn visual narrative contrasting vintage archival footage with neon-lit 70s CRT interfaces to frame the automation of manual lab work not just as a software solution, but as an essential leap forward for modern science.

Idea

The concept centers on making complex lab automation visually compelling and immediately understandable.

By filtering authentic scientific workflows through a retro-futuristic aesthetic, mixing CRT terminal feeling, archival footage, and clean graphic overlays, the art direction aimed to elevate technical research into a sleek, modern visual story.

Rough Sketches

Storyboards
With no voiceover to carry the narrative, the storyboarding phase was critical for engineering the film’s visual rhythm, carefully mapping out the slow-building tension, scene blocking, and seamless transitions between archival footage and modern digital systems.

Visual Language
A look at the finalized visual direction. Through the use of custom overlays, film grain, and a high-contrast palette, the image treatment seamlessly blends with the sleek, modern operating systems.

Different style explorations before landing on the final style.

Final styleframes After an extensive phase of visual exploration and iteration, these are the final styleframes we landed on to define the look
and feel of the project.

UI Design
The core software interfaces were provided by the client. We took these clean designs and adapted them for motion, ensuring the product itself felt perfectly at home within the cinematic world we built.
